Lahey Constructions has been awarded the contract for the new build and refurbishment of one of Sydney’s oldest public schools. The Alexandria Park Community School, originally established back in 1890, will be redeveloped and become the new home for the Central Sydney Intensive English High School. The rejuvenated facility will feature a new build three-storey teaching space with a gymnasium that will seamlessly link into the existing refurbished Block D building. Lahey Constructions attended the 2017 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards evening held last weekend at the Star Event Centre. Thank you to MBA for putting on a spectacular night at this year’s Gala Dinner, as always a great night was had by all! Lahey would like to congratulate the Harbord Public School – New Facilities project team, who won the category for ‘Public Schools up to $15, 000,000’. The City of Sydney recently hosted an open day for the Green Square Community and Cultural Precinct. The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore gave an overview of the Green Square Precinct, including current and upcoming works, with Gadigal Elder, Uncle Chicka Madden, giving the Welcome to Country. The event was attended by over 150 members of the public who saw first-hand, the progress that is being made to reinvigorate and revitalise the area. The Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation has purchased two Pulse Oximeter Machines with the donations we raised at Christmas! Lahey’s Bid Director, Guy Tristram, visited the Hospital to experience first-hand what the machine does for the Hospital’s Sleep Medicine Unit. The machines are a simple and effective way to screen babies and children for potentially life-threatening sleep conditions by measuring oxygen levels in the blood. They help SCH identify which children need to be prioritised in sleep studies, and have dramatically reduced the extensive waiting list. Channel 7 Sunrise morning news ran a segment on the new, Hi-Tech, Harbord Public school over the weekend. The article focused on how the school are introducing new and advanced learning techniques, by using the space and furniture to create flexible, learning environments for the staff and students. The official opening of the Alice Springs Hospital Research Education and Development (RED) Centre that took place last month was an astounding success as the NT Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles, graced us with her presence at the ceremony. The new two-storey building, also known as the Teaching and Training Facility, boasts a 100 seat theatre, training and tutorial rooms, video conference rooms, student lounge, student computer hub and office areas. Congratulations to the Toronto Police Station site team, who recently handed over the new Toronto Police Station several weeks early and on budget. The ‘Go Live’ date for the station was 7th March, the staff are delighted with their new ‘state of the art’ facility. The new police station was constructed on the same site as the old existing station, on the corner of Cary and Thorne Street. Prior to commencing works at Toronto, the staff were temporarily relocated to the local Boolaroo Police station whilst the main construction works were undertaken at Toronto.
