Channel 7 Sunrise morning news ran a segment on the new, Hi-Tech, Harbord Public school over the weekend. The article focused on how the school are introducing new and advanced learning techniques, by using the space and furniture to create flexible, learning environments for the staff and students. Harbord Public School have introduced innovative new ways of learning using retractable walls, stand up hover boards, interactive white boards, reading pods, Ipads and ‘writable’ white board desks which are seen as the future of education. The official opening of the Alice Springs Hospital Research Education and Development (RED) Centre that took place last month was an astounding success as the NT Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles, graced us with her presence at the ceremony. The new two-storey building, also known as the Teaching and Training Facility, boasts a 100 seat theatre, training and tutorial rooms, video conference rooms, student lounge, student computer hub and office areas. Congratulations to the Toronto Police Station site team, who recently handed over the new Toronto Police Station several weeks early and on budget. The ‘Go Live’ date for the station was 7th March, the staff are delighted with their new ‘state of the art’ facility. The new police station was constructed on the same site as the old existing station, on the corner of Cary and Thorne Street. Prior to commencing works at Toronto, the staff were temporarily relocated to the local Boolaroo Police station whilst the main construction works were undertaken at Toronto. The official sod turning ceremony was held on-site last month to mark the official start of construction for the new Southern Highlands Police Station. This Christmas, Lahey Constructions raised donations to The Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. With the help of our staff and valued subcontractors, we achieved our target which was to raise enough funds for SCHF to purchase two ‘Pulse Oximeter’ machines, which are urgently needed in the Sleep Ward. A Pulse Oximeter is a machine that is used to measure the oxygen level in blood, particularly how well oxygen is being sent to different parts of a child’s body that is far away from their heart, such as their arms and legs. The NSW Premier, Mike Baird, returned to Harbord Public School for a second site visit on Wednesday 7th December. The Premier addressed the school during a special assembly on the morning and completed his visit with a tour of the new facility. Our education team continue to work hard fitting out the new facility and preparing for the external works. The new section of the school which includes 18 Homebase classrooms, open space activity areas, two storey library and Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) will be ready for when the staff and students return in Term 1 2017. The new 2 storey Local Area Command Police Station includes demolition of the existing Police Station, basement level parking and external works. Lahey Constructions has recently handed over the new Riverstone Police Station. This is Lahey Constructions 9th Police Station that we have delivered for NSW Police Force. The original heritage building was designed by the government architect WL Vernon, and built in 1892 for use as a lock-up keeper’s residence, the late Victorian brick building was converted for use as a police station in 1979 and remodelled in 1981. Move forward 30 years and this ‘next generation’ style of police station, designed by Gardner Wetherill, will house 63 NSW Police Force personnel.
